(following description taken from website) - www.standon-calling.com Standon Calling is a three day boutique music festival set on the grounds of a 16th Century Hertfordshire manor house, an hour north of London. Renowned for its incredibly friendly, intimate vibe, Standon Calling is a joy inducing, mind bending eccentric weekend in the country with a ground breaking musical banquet thrown in for good measure. A completely independent affair, this year Standon Calling embarks on its ninth spectacular year with a retro space theme that will blow your tube socks back to 1969.
Revenues generated by the festival benefit the Phoenix Futures Charity's (Charity no. 284880) network of drug and alcohol abuse centres around the country.

Standon has built quite a reputation for having jaw-droppingly good line ups and this year is no exception. We're very excited to announce world renowned artists including afrobeat star FEMI KUTI AND his band THE POSITIVE FORCE, electro pioneers LADYTRON, jazz innovator and legend Sun Ra's legacy to the world the SUN RA ARKESTRA, and to close the festival on Sunday night, man of steel, TONY CHRISTIE. And all that before we have even announced both our Saturday headliners.
Further down the bill we are, as always, dedicated to programming the most hotly tipped acted as they break. Last year we championed the likes of Florence and the Machine, Glasvegas and Esser and this year we've selected another ripening batch of emerging acts – check our LINE UP!
MOON WALKS AND GALILEO
So, it's 2009. That's a whole 40 years after Neil Armstrong and his beatnik brethren landed their lunar module 'The Eagle' on the moon and took a walk. A feat deserving of our attention, I think you'll agree! Or, if you're more of a Renaissance type its also 400 years since Galileo unveiled his telescope to stunned Venetians.
Standon regulars will know how dedicated we are to warping your minds, but this year we're gearing up to warp time – as it's never been warped before! Small scale this means freezing ticket prices at last year's rate, a mere 89 sheaves of your humanoid money-paper. Grander scale, we're talking stopovers in Galileo's Observatory, farrrr ooouuuuut trips to the Standon Space Station, and costumes, performances and art installations the likes of which our innocent little cosmos has yet to behold. All worth bearing in mind for Saturday night's big fancy dress up session - there are prizes!
Make sure you remember to keep your eyes open after the main stages close. This year we've got some surprises for each night tucked up our space gloves.
